A Memoir & Workbook by Karen Lorene
Join us for a reading and reception Wednesday, September 7th at 4pm. Please RSVP (206)624-6768 to attend.
Personal anecdotes, from sad to pleasant to frightening, cover forty years of retail in Building a Business, Building a Life, a memoir and business workbook, by Karen Lorene . For the potential entrepreneur, this book offers practical steps for creating a retail art gallery (in this particular case, a jewelry art gallery). Useable, easily applicable suggestions accompany each chapter. From finding a space to finding success, the author encourages the reader to take chances in the challenging world of retail. The final pages of the book offer worksheets for day to day planning. "If I'd only known what was in this book forty years ago, how much more money would I have made and how fewer problems would I have encountered?" says Lorene. This is a book you will enjoy, and then perhaps the words of encouragement will send you out to create your own retail adventure.
Karen Lorene, owner of Facèré Jewelry Art Gallery in Seattle, WA, has for forty years made her way in the world of retail. From an early career of teaching at the University of Chicago Laboratory School where she embraced John Dewey's teachings, "Learn by Doing," Lorene went into the world of retail with no experience and no money. She learned how to succeed by doing. Lorene has generously shared her successes and failures in this memoir, Building a Business, Building a Life. She wishes her readers well and hopes that should they follow her example, they too will find that they can hardly wait to get to work every day. After forty years.
Building a Business, Building a Life is available from the gallery or online at Blurb. Softcover $18.50
