Featured Artist: David LaPlantz

April 4, 2012 - April 25, 2012

David works with flat stacked, engraved, and cold connected industrially painted aluminum to create colorful, visual statements.

LaPlantz jokingly calls his brooches "Cartoonos Roundos" because he sees his wearable art as precise, image driven cartoons. Some brooches tell a tale that may be instantly quite clear to the viewer, while others may require some translation, either in words or symbolism. Similar to the panels in a newspaper cartoon, LaPlantz endeavors to tell his story in one single, individual panel as evidenced by the round brooch format. The round format may be divided into several parts or left as one flat image.
